5th Sunday in Lent

Opening Word 招詞

Let us begin the service with the words of Scripture.

(Psalm 126:5-6

Those who sow with tears will reap with songs of joy.  Those who go out weeping carrying seed to sow, will return with songs of joy, carrying sheaves with them.

The Commandments (Decalogue) 十戒

Officiant

During the Lent season, we will read the Decalogue.

Hear the commandments which God has given to His people, and examine your hearts.

“ I am the Lord your God: You shall have no other gods but Me.

You shall not make for yourself any idol.

You shall not dishonour the name of the Lord your God.

Remember the Sabbath and keep it holy.”

All: Lord, have mercy upon us and write all these Your laws in our hearts.

Officiant

“ Honour your father and your mother.

You shall not commit murder.

You shall not commit adultery.

You shall not steal.

You shall not bear false witness against your neighbour.

You shall not covet anything which belongs to your neighbour.

All: Lord, have mercy upon us and write all these Your laws in our hearts.

Collect for 5th Sunday in Lent 特祷

Most merciful God, by the death and resurrection of your Son Jesus Christ,

you created humanity anew.

May the power of his victorious cross transform those who turn in faith to him who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and for ever. Amen.

Scripture Passages

his is what the Lord says— he who made a way through the sea, a path through the mighty waters,17 who drew out the chariots and horses, the army and reinforcements together and they lay there, never to rise again, extinguished, snuffed out like a wick:
18 “Forget the former things; do not dwell on the past.19 See, I am doing a new thing!
Now it springs up; do you not perceive it? I am making a way in the wilderness and streams in the wasteland.20 The wild animals honor me, the jackals, and the owls,
because I provide water in the wilderness and streams in the wasteland,
to give drink to my people, my chosen,21     the people I formed for myself that they may proclaim my praise.

Six days before the Passover, Jesus came to Bethany, where Lazarus lived, whom Jesus had raised from the dead. Here a dinner was given in Jesus’ honor. Martha served, while Lazarus was among those reclining at the table with him. Then Mary took about a pint of pure nard, an expensive perfume; she poured it on Jesus’ feet and wiped his feet with her hair. And the house was filled with the fragrance of the perfume. But one of his disciples, Judas Iscariot, who was later to betray him, objected, “Why wasn’t this perfume sold and the money given to the poor? It was worth a year’s wages.” He did not say this because he cared about the poor but because he was a thief; as keeper of the money bag, he used to help himself to what was put into it.“Leave her alone,” Jesus replied. “It was intended that she should save this perfume for the day of my burial. You will always have the poor among you, but you will not always have me.”

Let us examine ourselves and confess our sins.

Most merciful God, we confess that we have sinned against You in thought, word and deed, by what we have done, and by what we have left undone. We have not loved You with our whole heart; we have not loved our neighbors as ourselves. We are truly sorry and we humbly repent. For the sake of Your Son Jesus Christ, have mercy on us and forgive us; that we may delight in Your will, and walk in Your ways, to the glory of Your Name. Amen.

最慈悲的上帝, 我們承認在思想、言語和行為上, 常常得罪了祢;

Priest

Almighty God, our heavenly Father, who in His great mercy has promised forgiveness of sins to all those who sincerely repent and with true faith turn to Him, have mercy upon you, pardon and deliver you from all your sins, confirm and strengthen you in all goodness, and bring you to everlasting life; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.
