September 5, 2021

15th Sunday after Pentecost

(Season of Creation)

Before the service

We are now at the BC restart plan step 3. However, recently, Covid case counts continue to rise in British Columbia. So, our community should continue to be cautious.

  • If you or anyone in your family feels sick stay home and get tested immediately.
  • Please continue to sit in your household groups as much as you can. Please re-arrange chairs as necessary to social distance yourselves.
  • Masks are mandatory in indoor public settings. If you feel more comfortable wearing a mask even outside, please do so.

Opening Word 招詞

Officiant: Let us begin the short service with the words of Scripture.

No one has ever seen God; but if we love one another, God lives in us and His love is made complete in us.

Opening Hymn

The Church’s one foundation

  1. The church’s one Foundation
    is Jesus Christ her Lord;
    she is His new creation,
    by water and the Word;
    from heav’n He came and sought her
    to be His holy bride;
    with His own blood He bought her,
    and for her life He died.

  1. Elect from ev’ry nation,
    yet one o’er all the earth,
    her charter of salvation,
    one Lord, one faith, one birth;
    one holy Name she blesses,
    partakes one holy food,
    and to one hope she presses,
    with ev’ry grace endued.
  2.  ‘Mid toil and tribulation,
    and tumult of her war,
    she waits the consummation
    of peace for evermore;
    till with the vision glorious
    her longing eyes are blest,
    and the great church victorious
    shall be the church at rest.

Collect 特祷

Officiant

We are now in the season of creation. From September 1 to October 4, Christians around the world celebrate the Season of Creation. During this special time each year, we remember that we are called to restore our relationships with God, each other and with all creation. Let us pray together for the collect for creation care.

All 一同:

Lord of creation, Your world reveals Your glory, Grant us eyes to see Your glory in all that You have made, from the beauty of a sunset to the pattern of a snowflake.

Give us minds to grasp something of Your purposes in creation and the humility to take our place as co-workers serving You in Your garden.

Give us hearts to love You in loving all Your works, and tenderness in nurturing life in all its fullness. Through Jesus Christ, who is alive with you and the Holy Spirit, one God now and for ever. Amen.

Confession & Absolution

Let us examine ourselves and confess our sins.

Most merciful God, we confess that we have sinned against You in thought, word and deed, by what we have done, and by what we have left undone. We have not loved You with our whole heart; we have not loved our neighbors as ourselves. We are truly sorry and we humbly repent. For the sake of Your Son Jesus Christ, have mercy on us and forgive us; that we may delight in Your will, and walk in Your ways, to the glory of Your Name. Amen.

Priest

Almighty God, our heavenly Father, who in His great mercy has promised forgiveness of sins to all those who sincerely repent and with true faith turn to Him, have mercy upon you, pardon and deliver you from all your sins, confirm and strengthen you in all goodness, and bring you to everlasting life; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

Scripture Passages

Say to those with fearful hearts,
“Be strong, do not fear;
your God will come,
he will come with vengeance;
with divine retribution
he will come to save you.”

Then will the eyes of the blind be opened
and the ears of the deaf unstopped.
Then will the lame leap like a deer,
and the mute tongue shout for joy.
Water will gush forth in the wilderness
and streams in the desert.
The burning sand will become a pool,
the thirsty ground bubbling springs.

Officiant 司式者: Thanks be to God 主に感謝します。

James 2:1-10

My brothers and sisters, believers in our glorious Lord Jesus Christ must not show favoritism. Suppose a man comes into your meeting wearing a gold ring and fine clothes, and a poor man in filthy old clothes also comes in. If you show special attention to the man wearing fine clothes and say, “Here’s a good seat for you,” but say to the poor man, “You stand there” or “Sit on the floor by my feet,” have you not discriminated among yourselves and become judges with evil thoughts? Listen, my dear brothers and sisters: Has not God chosen those who are poor in the eyes of the world to be rich in faith and to inherit the kingdom he promised those who love him? But you have dishonored the poor. Is it not the rich who are exploiting you? Are they not the ones who are dragging you into court? Are they not the ones who are blaspheming the noble name of him to whom you belong? If you really keep the royal law found in Scripture, “Love your neighbor as yourself,”[a] you are doing right. But if you show favoritism, you sin and are convicted by the law as lawbreakers. 10 For whoever keeps the whole law and yet stumbles at just one point is guilty of breaking all of it.

Mark 7:31-37 (ESV)

The Holy Gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ according to Mark 7:31-37.

Officiant 司式者: Glory to you, Lord Christ.

31 Then he returned from the region of Tyre and went through Sidon to the Sea of Galilee,
in the region of the Decapolis. 32 And they brought to him a man who was deaf and had a
speech impediment, and they begged him to lay his hand on him. 33 And taking him aside from the crowd privately, he put his fingers into his ears, and after spitting touched his
tongue. 34 And looking up to heaven, he sighed and said to him, “Ephphatha,” that is, “Be opened.” 35 And his ears were opened, his tongue was released, and he spoke plainly.
36 And Jesus charged them to tell no one. But the more he charged them, the more
zealously they proclaimed it. 37 And they were astonished beyond measure, saying, “He
has done all things well. He even makes the deaf hear and the mute speak.”

We stand together with Christians throughout the centuries, and throughout the world today, to affirm our faith in the words of the Apostles’’ Creed.

All 一同:

I believe in God, the Father almighty, Creator of heaven and earth. I believe in Jesus Christ, His only Son, our Lord, who was conceived by the Holy Spirit, born of the Virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, died, and was buried; He descended to the dead. On the third day He rose again; He ascended into heaven, He is seated at the right hand of the Father, and He will come to judge the living and the dead. I believe in the Holy Spirit, the holy catholic Church, the communion of saints, the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body, and the life everlasting. Amen.

I love to tell the story

  1. I love to tell the story
    Of unseen things above
    Of Jesus and his glory
    Of Jesus and his love

I love to tell the story
Because I know ‘tis true
It satisfies my longings
As nothing else can do

I love to tell the story
‘Twill be my theme in glory
To tell the old, old story
Of Jesus and his love

  1. I love to tell the story
    ’tis pleasant to repeat,
    What seems each time I tell it
    more wonderfully sweet
    I love to tell the story
    for some have never heard
    The message of salvation

from God’s own holy Word.

  1. I love to tell the story
    For those who know it best
    Seem hungering and thirsting
    To hear it like the rest

And when, in scenes of glory
I sing the new, new song
‘Twill be the old, old story
That I have loved so long
