Good afternoon, everyone. Welcome to the Church of All Nations’ Christmas service.

Today’s service is prepared and led by our Sunday school children and youth.

Every Christmas season, we are to remember with thanksgiving that Jesus Christ came to the world in the form of humanity to save us. We are also called to remember and prepare for Christ’s second coming.

Lighting of the Advent & Christmas Candle

Officiant

Let us begin the service by lighting the 4th Advent Candle and the Christ candle.

During the Advent & Christmas season, each Sunday, we light an Advent candle one by one. The meaning of each of the 4 candles are the 1st week as ‘Hope’, 2nd week: ‘Peace’, 3rd week: ‘Joy’, and 4th week: ‘Love’. On Christmas, the central white candle: which is the “Christ Candle” is lit.

Today, we will light the 4th Advent candle of ’Love’ and the Christ candle.

‘Love’ Candle:

I will read the Gospel of John chapter 3 verse 16.

“For God so loved the world, that He gave His only Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have eternal life.”

I light the candle of ‘love’. (Light the 4th candle). 「

‘Christ’ Candle:

I will read the Gospel of Luke chapter 2 verse 10 and 11

The angel said, “Do not be afraid. I bring you good news that will cause great joy for all the people. Today in the town of David a Savior has been born to you;

He is the Messiah, the Lord. “

I light the Christ candle. (Light the Christ candle). 「

All 一同: O God our Father, whose Word has come among us, in the Holy Child of Bethlehem, may the light of faith illumine our hearts and shine in our words and deeds; through Him who is Christ our Lord, who lives and reigns with You and the Holy Spirit, One God, now and for ever. Amen

Confession & Absolution

Christ the light of the world has come to dispel the darkness of our hearts.

In His light, let us examine ourselves and confess our sins.

All一同:Most merciful God, we confess that we have sinned against You in thought, word and deed, by what we have done, and by what we have left undone. We have not loved You with our whole heart; we have not loved our neighbors as ourselves. We are truly sorry and we humbly repent. For the sake of Your Son Jesus Christ, have mercy on us and forgive us; that we may delight in Your will, and walk in Your ways, to the glory of Your Name. Amen.

最慈悲的上帝, 我們承認在思想、言語和行為上, 常常得罪了祢;

Scripture Passages

Sing, Daughter Zion;

shout aloud, Israel!

Be glad and rejoice with all your heart,

Daughter Jerusalem!

15 The Lord has taken away your punishment,

he has turned back your enemy.

The Lord, the King of Israel, is with you;

never again will you fear any harm.

16 On that day they will say to Jerusalem,

“Do not fear, Zion; do not let your hands hang limp.

17 The Lord your God is with you,

the Mighty Warrior who saves.

He will take great delight in you;

in his love he will no longer rebuke you,

but will rejoice over you with singing.”

18 “I will remove from you

all who mourn over the loss of your appointed

festivals, which is a burden and reproach for you.

19 At that time I will deal with all who oppressed you.

I will rescue the lame; I will gather the exiles.

I will give them praise and honor

in every land where they have suffered shame.

20 At that time I will gather you;

at that time I will bring you home.

I will give you honor and praise

among all the peoples of the earth

when I restore your fortunes

before your very eyes,” says the Lord.

Philippians 4:4-7

Rejoice in the Lord always. I will say it again: Rejoice! Let your gentleness be evident to all. The Lord is near. Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.

Luke 2:1₋14

(Before reading)

Reader 朗読者: The Holy Gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ according to Luke 2:1-14.

Officiant 司式者: Glory to you, Lord Christ.

In those days Caesar Augustus issued a decree that a census should be taken of the entire Roman world. (This was the first census that took place while[a] Quirinius was governor of Syria.) And everyone went to their own town to register.

So Joseph also went up from the town of Nazareth in Galilee to Judea, to Bethlehem the town of David, because he belonged to the house and line of David. He went there to register with Mary, who was pledged to be married to him and was expecting a child. While they were there, the time came for the baby to be born, and she gave birth to her firstborn, a son. She wrapped him in cloths and placed him in a manger, because there was no guest room available for them.

And there were shepherds living out in the fields nearby, keeping watch over their flocks at night. An angel of the Lord appeared to them, and the glory of the Lord shone around them, and they were terrified. 10 But the angel said to them, “Do not be afraid. I bring you good news that will cause great joy for all the people. 11 Today in the town of David a Savior has been born to you; he is the Messiah, the Lord. 12 This will be a sign to you: You will find a baby wrapped in cloths and lying in a manger.”

13 Suddenly a great company of the heavenly host appeared with the angel, praising God and saying,

14 “Glory to God in the highest heaven,

and on earth peace to those on whom his favor rests.”

(After reading)

Reader 朗読者: The Gospel of the Lord

We stand together with Christians throughout the centuries, and throughout the world today, to affirm our faith in the words of the Apostle’s Creed.

All 一同: I believe in God, the Father Almighty, Creator of heaven and earth.

I believe in Jesus Christ, His only Son, our Lord. He was conceived by the power of the Holy Spirit and born of the Virgin Mary. He suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, died, and was buried. He descended to the dead.
On the third day He rose again. He ascended into heaven, and is seated at the right hand of the Father. He will come again to judge the living and the dead.

I believe in the Holy Spirit, the holy catholic Church, the communion of saints, the forgiveness of sins, and the life everlasting. Amen.

Offertory Prayer

Almighty God, use this offering, in the service of your Kingdom to the glory of your name. Amen

Advent・Christmas Eucharistic Prayer 聖餐の祈り (modified from the Common Worship)

Celebrant 司祭: Welcome the Lord. Praise His name!

Be strong and brave and put your hope in the Lord!

All 一同: We will praise the name of the Lord.

  We will trust in Him and keep the faith of Christ Jesus.

Celebrant 司祭: Let us give thanks to the Lord our God.

All 一同: It is right to give Him thanks and praise.

Celebrant

It is indeed right and good to give You thanks and praise, almighty God and everlasting Father, through Jesus Christ your Son. For when He humbled Himself to come among us in human flesh, He fulfilled the plan You formed before the foundation of the world to open for us the way of salvation. Confident that Your promise will be fulfilled, we now watch for the day when Christ our Lord will come again in glory. And so we join our voices with angels and archangels and with all the company of heaven to proclaim Your glory for ever praising You and saying:

All 一同: Holy, holy, holy Lord, God of power and might,

heaven and earth are full of Your glory. Hosanna in the highest.

Blessed is He who comes in the name of the Lord.

Hosanna in the highest.

Jesus declared, “I am the bread of life. Whoever comes to Me will never go hungry, and whoever believes in Me will never be thirsty.” (John 6 :35)

On the same night that He was betrayed, took bread and gave You thanks;

He broke it and gave it to His disciples, saying:

Take, eat; this is My body which is given for you; do this in remembrance of Me.

In the same way, after supper, He took the cup and gave You thanks;

He gave it to them, saying:

Drink this, all of you; this is My blood of the new covenant, which is shed for

you and for many for the forgiveness of sins. Do this, as often as you drink it,

in remembrance of Me.

Therefore, we proclaim the mystery of faith:

All 一同:  Christ has died, Christ is risen, Christ will come again.

Heavenly Father, accept through Him, our great high priest, this our sacrifice of thanks and praise, and as we eat and drink these holy gifts in the presence of your divine majesty, renew us by your Spirit, inspire us with your love and unite us in the body of your Son, Jesus Christ our Lord. Through Him, and with Him, and in Him, in the unity of the Holy Spirit, with all who stand before You in earth and heaven, we worship You, Father Almighty, in songs of everlasting praise: All honor and glory be Yours, for ever and ever. Amen

The Lord’s Prayer

As our Saviour taught us, let us pray,

All 一同:

Our Father in Heaven, Hallowed be your Name, Your Kingdom come,

Your will be done, on earth, as in Heaven. Give us today our daily bread.

Forgive us our sins, as we forgive those who sin against us.

Lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil.

For the Kingdom, the Power, and the Glory are yours, now and forever. Amen
